Virginia Woolf. Junto con el marido de Virginia, Leonard Woolf y Roger Fry, formaron el núcleo del grupo de Bloomsbury. Las ideas estéticas más importantes de Bell se publicaron en
Art (
1914) y
Since Cézanne (1922), donde promovió su teoría de la "forma significante (la cualidad que distingue a las obras de arte de todos los demás objetos). Su afirmación de que la apreciación del arte involucra una respuesta emocional frente a las cualidades puramente formales, independiente de su temática, resultó influyente por varias décadas.
